2015 Grammy Winner Mike Farris is a musical renaissance man. He’s toured as lead singer for the Southern rock band Screaming Cheetah Wheelies, and following the demise of blues and rock legend Stevie Ray Vaughn, as the lead singer for the blues band Double Trouble. In his solo career, he began to rediscover and reinterpret traditional black spiritual music by adding his own mix of vintage Southern soul.
Farris won the prestigious Americana Music Award for Best New & Emerging Artist, a Dove Award for Best Traditional Gospel Album of the Year and a 2015 Grammy award for his latest release “Shine For All The People”.
Flippo, along with vocalist Kelly Delaveris, presents a special tribute to the music of Chick Corea, an American jazz and fusion pianist, keyboardist, and composer. As a member of Miles Davis‘s band in the late 1960s, he participated in the birth of the electric jazz fusion movement. Along with Herbie Hancock, McCoy Tyner, and Keith Jarrett, he has been described as one of the major jazz piano voices to emerge in the post-John Coltrane era.
Kelly Delaveris has been singing professionally since 1978, inspired by her father’s collection of big band singers and Sergio Mendes recordings. She has performed with a variety of instrumentation, from a duo to a symphony, and is a frequent guest of the Columbus Jazz Orchestra. Kelly is a fan-favorite among local Columbus jazz fans. She was voted Best Vocalist in Columbus by the Columbus Dispatch 2006 Readers Poll. Kelly has opened for Sarah Vaughn, Bob James, Bob Newhart, Joan Rivers, Tito Puente, Tony Bennett and many more.
FLIPPO is a Columbus jazz group displaying instrumental virtuosity and creative energy in the spirit of sonic colors and innovation born of the “funk” and “jazz/rock fusion” movements of the 1970’s and beyond. The band features Michael Cox on Sax, Dennis Hodges on guitar, Erik Augis on Keys, Andy Woodson on bass, Louis Tsamous on drums, Lucas Holmes on keyboards, and Zach Compston on percussion.
