Soul Sunday continues at Natalie’s with the dynamic vocalist Mary McClendon and her talented group of musicians. McClendon has been on the jazz scene since graduating from Marion Franklin High School and the Columbus College of Art & Design. Her smooth vocals and scat singing have made her an audience favorite over the years. She’s shared the stage with many jazz greats, and has performed regularly with the Columbus Jazz Orchestra, Ballet Met, and the Columbus Symphony.
In addition to her career as a jazz vocalist, her resume credits include the Golden Stage, the Silver Screen, and voice overs and commercials on radio and television. She’s presented master classes and workshops, and is still busy fronting the Mary McClendon Trio in many venues throughout central Ohio. Joining Mary for this special evening at Natalie’s is Vernon Hairston (piano), Dwight Bailey (bass), and Jerry Powell (drums).
The monthly Soul Sunday evening shows are coordinated and hosted by the talented Paisha Thomas. Paisha is a locally based entertainer who engages others through art with her singing and songwriting. She creates music about love, politics, self-discovery, and the condition of the world
Soul Sunday at Natalie’s is held on the first Sunday of each month, and includes a delicious Brunch from 11 am until 3 pm, with the Derek DiCenzo Trio performing between 11 am and 1 pm. The Gospel Show Brunch show begins at 2:30, and presents the best national and regional Gospel Artists in concert, hosted and coordinated by Debra James Tucker. The evening show will feature a variety of Soul bands and artists starting at 8 pm. In addition to the regular menu, enjoy a “Soul Food” special created just for this series!
