The Gospel Soul Brunch Series continues with a special program featuring host Debra James Tucker along with special guest Paisha Thomas. They will be paying tribute to the music of Mahalia Jackson and Sister Rosetta Tharpe as part ofNatalie’s 6th Anniversary Celebration titled “Sisters Are Doin’ It For Themselves”, a full week of shows featuring female musicians.
The unique sound of vocalist Debra James Tucker is a product of extensive training in jazz, classical and gospel music. She is the writer/performer of the one woman show Survival of the Boulevard Singer—winner of an Ohio Arts Council Award for Individual Excellence, has been visiting instructor at Denison University in the history of African American Gospel Music, and an artist in residence with a number of youth arts organizations.
Paisha is a locally based entertainer who engages others throughart mostly by her singing and songwriting. She creates music about love, politics, self-discovery, and the condition of the world. Her first (eponymous) album was released last year, and she performs at a variety of local venues with her band and sometimes as a solo artist. One of her most proud performances was in the Backstage at the Lincoln Theater Concert Series.
Soul Sunday at Natalie’s is held on the first Sunday of each month, and includes a delicious Brunch from 11 am until 3 pm, with the Derek DiCenzo Trio performing between 11 am and 1 pm. The Gospel Show Brunch show begins at 2:30 and presents the best national and regional Gospel Artists in concert. The evening show, hosted by Paisha Thomas, features a variety of Soul bands and artists starting at 8 pm. In addition to the regular menu, enjoy a “Soul Food” special created just for this series!
