Gospel Soul Brunch: The James Tucker Inspirational Singers
Hosted by Debra James Tucker
The Gospel Soul Brunch Series, hosted by Debra James Tucker on the first Sunday of each month on Soul Sunday at Natalie’s, continues with The James Tucker Inspirational Singers. Showtime is 2:30 pm, and our Sunday brunch menu is available from 11 am until 3 pm for these shows.
The James Tucker Inspirational Singers take their name from both their father, the late Rev. James Tucker, Sr., longtime Baptist pastor, and the late James Tucker Jr., their brother and longtime director, accompanist and vocalist. This family of musicians has a lineage of gospel singers and preachers. Growing up in Mansfield, Ohio, they acquired local acclaim as young children for their spirited performances for area churches and civic events. Individual members continue to carve out places in music.
The unique sound of vocalist Debra James Tucker is a product of extensive training in jazz, classical and gospel music. The style flowing the wild timbre of her big range is entirely her own thing. She is the writer/performer of the one woman show Survival of the Boulevard Singer — winner of an Ohio Arts Council Award for Individual Excellence, has been visiting instructor at Denison University in the history of African American Gospel Music, and an artist in residence with a number of youth arts organizations
