Soul Sunday: Dara Tucker
Hosted by Paisha Thomas
- This event has passed.
Soul Sunday continues at Natalie’s with the with the outstanding vocalist and songwriter Dara Tucker and her band. One of the premiere voices in jazz and beyond, Dara has opened for Gregory Porter, appeared on the Tavis Smiley Show and won the silver medal & the Ben Tucker Jazz Award in the prestigious, “American Traditions Competition” (2017). She is making her mark in the world of jazz and beyond with a blend of soul, Americana, gospel and jazz that is uniquely her own.
Tucker’s current and 4th studio album, Oklahoma Rain (2017), named after the state of her birth, showcases her as a formidable songwriter, able to express love, loss and healing in one fell swoop. She creates a mosaic of sound to reflect the influences that have helped to shape her since childhood from the gospel roots from which she sprung, to the jazz albums she listened to in secret, to the contemplative singer-songwriter and soul music of the 70s that lulled her to sleep each night.
The monthly Soul Sunday evening shows are coordinated and hosted by the talented Paisha Thomas. Paisha is a locally based entertainer who engages others through art with her singing and songwriting. She creates music about love, politics, self-discovery and the condition of the world.
Soul Sunday at Natalie’s is held on the first Sunday of each month, and includes a delicious Brunch from 11 am until 3 pm, with the Derek DiCenzo Trio performing between 11 am and 1 pm. The Gospel Soul Brunch show begins at 2:30 pm and presents the best national and regional gospel artists. The evening show, hosted by Paisha Thomas, features a variety of soul bands and artists starting at 8 pm. In addition to the regular menu, enjoy a soul food special, sponsored by Smithfield Ham, created just for this series!
