Soul Sunday: Paisha Thomas, Nikki D & the Browns, Debra James Tucker

Tribute to Soul and R&B Music of the Staple Singers...and Natalie’s 7-Year Anniversary Celebration!

  • This event has passed.
The Soul Sunday series continues with a special tribute show to the soul and r&b music of the Staple Singers, featuring Paisha Thomas, Nikki D and Debra James Tucker. This performance will also be part of Natalie’s 7-Year Anniversary Celebration. Paisha Thomas, the host and coordinator of Soul Sunday at Natalie’s, is a singer-songwriter who commands attention from the moment she takes the stage. Equally at home singing soul, gospel and r&b, Paisha creates music about love, self-discovery and the condition of the world. Nikki is the leader and vocalist for Nikki D & the Browns and is well known as a “sacred steel” player, a musical style and African-American gospel tradition of using lap steel and pedal steel guitars in church. The unique sound of vocalist Debra James Tucker is a product of extensive training in jazz, classical and gospel music. She is the writer and performer of the one woman show Survival of the Boulevard Singer — winner of an Ohio Arts Council Award for Individual Excellence.
The Staple Singers were an influential gospel, soul and r&b band that featured “Pops” Staples and his children, Mavis, Cleotha, Pervis and Yvonne. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1999 and Mavis Staples continues to record and tour throughout the world.
The Natalie’s 7-Year Anniversary Celebration will include festive, energetic shows, and those purchasing tickets will be given a complimentary “Natalie’s 7-Year Anniversary” handkerchief. Created by Alison Rose, the handkerchiefs can be waved during the shows as a tribute to the legendary New Orleans soul singer Irma Thomas, which is a tradition for her live shows.
Soul Sunday at Natalie’s is held on the first Sunday of each month and includes a delicious brunch from 11 am until 3 pm, with the Derek DiCenzo TRio performing between 11 am and 1 pm. The Gospel Soul Brunch concert begins at 2:30 pm and presents the best national and regional gospel artists in concert, hosted and coordinated by Debra James Tucker. The evening show, hosted by Paisha Thomas, will feature a variety of soul bands and artists starting at 8 pm. In addition to the regular menu, enjoy a soul food special, sponsored by Smithfield Ham, created just for this series!
