The Apple Bottom Gang
- This event has passed.
The Apple Bottom Gang has built a reputation as Columbus’ premier old-school country act, combining elements of western, rockabilly and swing, and they have built an impressive catalog of energetic and engaging original music. The band also serves up gig helpings of country greats like Johnny Cash, Buck Owens, Johnny Horton and Roger Miller. In a recent review, Columbus Alive described them as “country music for people who don’t like country music.”
The Gang is fronted by I.R. Hummel, the son of the late “Cowboy Bob” Hummel, whose band, Rainbow Canyon, scored a radio hit with “Franklin County Woman” in 1977. Growing up immersed in old-school country records, the influence is apparent, yet Hummel’s own style and delivery are his own. The band also includes long-time Columbus musicians Josh Tully (guitar), Matt Newman (bass), Jeff Passifiume (guitars, mandolin, lap steel), Dianne Hummel (vocals, percussion) and Rob Mottice (drums, washboard, vocals).
