Waves de Aché Band

Tribute to Paquito D’Rivera

  • This event has passed.

Taking a fiery modern approach to Latin jazz, Waves de Aché performs a tribute to the music of Paquito D’Rivera, the famed Cuban saxophonist. Led by bassist Will Strickler and percussionist Max Marsillo (both graduates of the Capital University Conservatory of Music), Waves de Aché blends salsa and Afro-Cuban rhythms with mid-western American funk, rock and hip-hop, creating music to make both body and mind dance.

Paquito D’Rivera was a founding member of the 1970’s Cuban fusion group Irakere and has won fourteen Grammys as a saxophonist, clarinetist and composer for Latin jazz, bebop and classical music. This tribute show will feature original compositions from the band members of Waves de Aché as well as songs by Paquito D’Rivera and artists he has worked closely with, such as pianist Manuel Valera and conguero Poncho Sanchez.

Waves de Ache features Will Strickler (electric bass), Max Marsillo (congas, percussion), Ben Maloney (piano), Kevin O’Neill (saxophone and flute), Anthony Stanco (trumpet) and Zach Compston (drum set.)
